Battery storage system

Following the 2020 commissioning of Vis SPP, we developed, manufactured and installed a 1 MW battery storage system that can store 1.44 MW of electricity.

In September 2020, KONČAR commissioned the 3.5 MW Vis SPP, the largest solar power plant in Croatia at the time. In November 2020, we contracted the development of the 1 MW battery storage system (BSS) that can store 1.44 MW of electricity.

This turnkey project encompassed the final and detailed design, manufacturing, delivery, installation and commissioning of the BSS.

At Vis BSS we installed our proprietary bidirectional converters, introduced the central Energy Management System and integrated all necessary sub-systems.

Vis BSS is connected to the island’s 10 kV grid via the existing MV connection point at Vis SPP. The battery storage system provides energy balancing and maintains grid stability on the island of Vis. The system operates on Li-ion batteries which enable rapid response, both in the terms of energy delivery requirements and for the purpose of storing electricity generated from either Vis SPP or the power grid.

The development of Vis SPP and Vis BSS facilitates the island’s journey towards energy self-sufficiency and sustainability.
