Vik – Sogndal, an engineering achievement shaping Norway’s energy landscape
Dalekovod, KONČAR Group member, is currently undertaking one of Norway’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. The project involves the construction of a new 420 kV transmission line along the Vik – Sogndal route, which includes a crossing over one of the country’s largest fjords.

This project forms part of a broader energy initiative aimed at connecting the regions of Aurland, Sogndal, and Vik. The fjord crossing represents one of the most technically demanding segments of the entire route. It involves the installation of specially designed towers – known as “needles” – steel structures reaching up to 52 meters in height and weighing over 50 tons. These components are lifted by helicopter and assembled directly on site.
Despite strong winds, challenging terrain, and rapidly shifting weather conditions, the project is progressing ahead of schedule, thanks to the expertise and dedication of the team – a result of seamless coordination between fitters, technicians, pilots and load masters.

Dalekovod’s team comprises seasoned professionals who manage complex operations daily and work closely with helicopter crews. The key to success lies in meticulous preparation, outstanding coordination, experience, teamwork, and mutual trust. Over more than three years of planning and implementation, the team has remained fully aligned with initial project timelines and technical specifications. Completion of all special towers is expected by September 2025.
With this project, KONČAR Group further reinforces its position as a reliable contractor for the most complex power grid infrastructure projects across Europe. On terrain where many doubted feasibility, the Croatian team is writing one of the most remarkable stories of engineering excellence.
