Transformers for Europe’s largest agrivoltaic power plant
KONČAR – Distribution and Special Transformers (D&ST) is participating in the construction of an agrivoltaic power plant in the German state of Brandenburg.
For the purposes of the project, D&ST contracted in mid-2024 the manufacturing of four medium power transformers, each with a rated capacity of 125 MVA.

The client is a leading German developer and investor in agrivoltaic systems, which, together with its partner, is managing the construction of a substation for the largest agrivoltaic project in Europe – Klimapark Steinhöfel.
The project spans eight districts and will connect a total installed capacity of up to 753 MVA (MWp) to the grid. The facility, equipped with a total of four D&ST transformers, will ensure reliable transmission of generated power into the existing high-voltage network of the regional distribution system operator E.DIS via 110 kV cable systems.
Klimapark Steinhöfel represents an innovative approach in the photovoltaic sector, combining sustainable energy generation with active agricultural production across an area of approximately 500 hectares. Advanced designs and technologies enable efficient and sustainable dual use of agricultural land, including light and rainwater management beneath DIN SPEC-compliant double-glass photovoltaic modules installed at a minimum height of 2.10 metres.

This dual-use solution delivers lasting positive effects on animal welfare and agricultural production, biodiversity, CO₂ reduction, groundwater protection, and the security of crop yields on the sandy soils characteristic of this region, which have traditionally been difficult to cultivate.
Once the agrivoltaic system is completed, farmers will use the land for multi-year forage production and as temporary pasture for raising calves and heifers.
The first two contracted units were delivered, installed and commissioned by D&ST in May this year, while the remaining two are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
