Type testing of ON.1
Following more than two years of dedicated development, we have successfully completed key type testing for our new generation of medium-voltage switchgear, the ON.1 series, at the KEMA laboratories.
The newly tested modules are rated for 24 kV and feature a short-circuit breaking capacity of 31.5 kA, with current ratings of 630 A and 1250 A, respectively. The project now enters its next phase, aiming for the certification of 40.5 kV / 2500 A modules, as KONČAR continues to scale performance and capabilities.
A key highlight of the ON.1 family is its commitment to environmental responsibility. Instead of SF₆, a greenhouse gas still common in the industry, these units use synthetic air (a blend of oxygen and nitrogen) as the insulating and arc-extinguishing medium. This positions KONČAR among a select group of manufacturers actively leading the shift toward sustainable power infrastructure, aligned with global CO₂ reduction targets.
The ON.1 project is the result of a strong R&D collaboration between KONČAR – Switchgear and KONČAR – Electrical Engineering Institute. Prior to KEMA certification, vital internal tests were carried out at the KONČAR Laboratory Centre, including voltage testing, short-circuit testing, and thermal rise assessments. Next in line are the internal arc resistance test and mechanical endurance validation, both scheduled for the coming months. With these final steps, the ON.1 switchgear is on track to enter the global market in 2026, ready to meet the demands of a decarbonizing energy landscape.
