105 years of knowledge, commitment and investment in young talent
KONČAR marks its 105th anniversary with the traditional award ceremony for the best students of the Zagreb University of Applied Sciences
To mark the 105th anniversary of its founding, KONČAR today welcomed professors and students of the Zagreb University of Applied Sciences (TVZ) for the traditional KONČAR Award ceremony. Since 2004, Croatia’s leading technology company has been presenting this valuable award to the most successful TVZ students across all years of study, guided by the motto “The best investment is the investment in people.” With the aim of recognising and further encouraging excellence, KONČAR once again honoured 18 students from the professional study programmes in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computing and Informatics. The awards were personally presented by the President of the Management Board of KONČAR, Mr. Gordan Kolak, MSc.
Founded on 24 January 1921, KONČAR has, throughout its century-long history, not only achieved remarkable industrial and technological milestones, but also made a significant contribution to Croatia’s academic community. KONČAR Day, the annual celebration of the company’s founding, is traditionally an occasion to honour generations of outstanding engineers and technical experts by continuing to invest in young people, higher education and the promotion of a culture of excellence. Following the official opening of the new state-of-the-art KONČAR – Transformer Tanks factory in Sesvetski Kraljevec on 23 January, which also symbolically marked KONČAR Day, the KONČAR Awards ceremony rounded off the celebration of 105 years of knowledge, progress, and investment in the future.

“It is especially important to us to recognise and support the effort, knowledge and success of young talents, because people are the greatest value of every successful organisation. Croatia and its industrial sector are entering an important period that will shape our future, and young people will play a key role as they take on responsibility for further development and strengthening the competitiveness of our domestic industry. With this recognition, we want to give them clear confirmation that we see and appreciate their effort, knowledge and excellence. We are proud of their achievements and, on behalf of KONČAR, we extend our sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success on their academic and professional journey. I am confident that some of them will find the right opportunity to realise their ambitions here at KONČAR,” said Gordan Kolak, President of the Management Board of KONČAR.
Alongside the President of the Management Board, the award recipients were congratulated by Management Board Members Petar Bobek and Ivan Paić. The ceremony was also attended by the Vice Dean for Education and Students at the Zagreb University of Applied Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Davor Cafuta, PhD, and the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Assist. Prof. Stjepan Tvorić, PhD.

“On behalf of the Dean of the Zagreb University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Jana Žiljak Gršić, PhD, and in my own name, I express my sincere gratitude for the prestigious awards you have presented to our most successful students. KONČAR has, for decades, been a symbol of technological excellence and innovation, and your continuous support for young talent clearly demonstrates deep commitment to the development of the profession and to investing in the future of Croatia’s economy. For our students, these awards represent not only financial support, but also a powerful source of motivation. They serve as a strong confirmation that their hard work, knowledge and dedication are recognised by an industry leader – which encourages them to continue their careers in the technological sector here in Croatia. We are proud to have KONČAR as a partner that understands the importance of synergy between the education system and the real sector. We believe that our students will become future innovators and drivers of progress in your facilities and laboratories,” said Assoc. Prof. Davor Cafuta, PhD, Vice Dean for Education and Students at the Zagreb University of Applied Sciences.
